days 23 - 24

thursday, it was visiting day. first we went to the bishop and hyline's home. they always make us feel so welcome! this was my third visit and relationships are remembered 🩵. there is a boy named dalton that is a very favorite of mine. i had chosen him beforehand to be the one to receive the special snoopy t-shirt (thanks, phoebe!). dalton wants to be a nurse and is sitting at #1 in his class. he knows that i want to help him make his dream happen. i just love this kid 🥹

after the bishop's home, we drove to linety's house. i don't need words to describe how hard this was. we took her many food staples. the needs feel insurmountable.

it was a pretty quiet ride back to the rescue center. it was really hard. we got back and bella and lydia needed to go to naivas, the nice grocery store that we love, to get a few things. this is when God did a miracle. if you've never been to kenya, saying it is market day may not mean much. if you have been, you understand perfectly what market day is like.

although the car had been fine the entire day, the brakes failed as alex, bella, and lydia were almost into kisii. because bella and alex were talking in swahilli, lydia had no idea what was happening until bella covers her face and keeps repeating, "oh Jesus!" alex is swerving, honking, and dodging everything in his path. he manages to avoid everything!!! and decides to slow the car by scraping a building which causes a flat tire before hitting a parked car. NOBODY IS INJURED!!! it was a bona fide miracle. a month ago, a similar thing happened in almost the same place and eleven were killed. they were terrified and soooo grateful. it was something they will never ever forget.

(alex at police station)

(still at police station and realizing the miracle)

(changing the flat tire which greatly helped slow the car)

yes, oh Jesus.... a million times over, thank you.
