days 13 - 16

every single time, the time is a blur. you do so much and then your brain can't recall it the next day. seriously, it's a thing.

also a thing, this place keeps growing on me. i am very grateful to have two worlds i live in. and love them equally. never in forever did i think this would be my life.

everyday the sounds become so familiar... the kids outside playing, babies crying, cows mooing, goats bleating, birds singing, staff talking in room next door, afro beats music playing.

monday, the sewing pilot began! it is going super well! we see this program growing and expanding into beadwork also.

kids' club also started monday and was soooo wonderful. these kiddos are thrilled to be taught. they are obedient.  they hold sooooo much potential. i absolutely love them. we are teaching mondays, wednesdays, fridays from 2:00 - 4:00. they are lined up outside the gate in anticipation. we stretch, do a fun song, winnie teaches a lesson on health, rose teaches a lesson on mental health, and then we divide into groups for language and math. it is all satisfying and fulfilling. my heart overflows being with them ❤️

tuesday was a WORK DAY!!!! i have earned my nickname from home 'general jan' 😆. everyone pitched in and every single piece of trash was picked up and every area with random construction crap was moved or removed. we worked the entire day! the property has never looked better. i love work days like that! i am weird in that way.

this was all in anticipation for the big crew of government staff coming to tour the property and discuss next steps. frustrating is a massive understatement to describe what the process has been like to open this center. there is NOTHING like this pretty much anywhere in kenya. they were in serious disbelief of the quality, size, beauty of the place. it is a beacon of light and hope to this very poor village. and still they delay. argh. yesterday was a milestone day though because there was no denying how needed a center like this is. 13 were so encouraging and kind, and then there was one. of course, he is the one with most authority 😪. and God has final authority and we rest in that.

it is thursday morning and we are headed out with bella to go shopping for supplies. we have been at the rescue center for three days and antsy to go out. i wonder how many times i will hear 'mzungu' today?!

  2. Alex, I pray the goat book brings so much knowledge and help to you. That was one of Luke’s first goat books. I am so happy you are reading it!
