the days all run together.... day 24. i cannot believe we are winding down this trip. we have gone non-stop and will leave here with more memories than my heart can hold. it has been wonderful. really wonderful. we met so many people, made so many friends, got so much done, and just fully experienced everything that kenya is.
everything is hard here. and they don't know any other way. sometimes i feel my western mindset creep up, and just want these hardworking people to not have to work so stinking hard day after day after day. and then it would rob them of their kenyan-ness. their friendliness, joy, and comradery are something you just can't put words to and convey it in a way that explains it.
we have met just a few poopheads that don't fit that description, but i would say 95% are some of the most kind and humble people you could ever cross paths with.
okay, property update! rescue center is being painted! love the bright pop of color! pictures when it is finished! beds almost done! trenches all dug and with pipes, and being covered! it is a l-a-b-o-r-i-o-u-s process. some days i marvel. some days i just shake my head. their hands and their backs. how can they do what they do?
and biggest news?!!! GOATS!!!! GOATS, PEOPLE!!! three weeks and God delivered in time for me to see them settled and fall in love. and leave them 😭
we now have eight free-ranging all day and safely tucked into their shelter at night. three came last night and five this morning. of course, there's a wild i couldn't make this stuff up story that goes with it. it involved five goats in compact car. car breaks down. car fixed after dark. goats stay in hotel room. manager of hotel now wants a lot more money than agreed upon to release goats to us. strained conversation between stephen and alex in parking lot with poophead.
and we got the goats safe and sound. i hate drama, and i really hate drama involving goats 🥹
today, our new social worker carolyn and me made decorations for bunk beds, i hung out with alex and the goats numerous times, lydia played and ran with fence kids, and we had dinner at carolyn's home afterward.
full day, full heart, empty brain lol. now photos in no order with no explanation. it's almost 11:00 p.m. here saturday night and tomorrow another packed day : )

so very much accomplished.
