if you can't do it brave, do it scared.

this trip was not on my radar. and yet, i am not surprised. i had a sense that after the fallout of last year, and then finally adjusting to a new normal that i have come to love, i was feeling quite comfortable. it was a feeling of being more comfortable than what GOD wanted for me. through what i know was an interesting and unusual set of circumstances, i find myself (and phoebe and esther!) heading to kenya. am i excited? very! am i feeling anxious? very!

it isn't the going that is hard; it is leaving all my people, my animals, and my little farm that is hard. LORD willing, we will return on july 3 with very grateful hearts for the journey He took us on.

and just as quickly as i write that sentence, HE gently reminds me of the abundance i enjoy every day. i step into poverty only temporarily. may i have a heart that recognizes the disparity in lifestyles and do my part regularly to share my bounty.

In His goodness, HE continues to send me tiny reminders over and over again that when HE asks us to do something that makes us feel uneasy or uncomfortable, we have to be okay with surrendering and knowing that HIS plans are much greater than anything we could think of for ourselves.

we leave tuesday evening, routing through amsterdam and landing in kenya thursday morning. we are with a team of 17 for a medical mission and orphan support project. because of the unusually heavy rainy season, the opening of the new orphanage is behind schedule. we will meet with the orphans, who will soon have a safe place to call home, and conduct mobile health screenings in schools and churches (In His Hands).

with every mission trip, you go into it knowing GOD is at work and anticipating how HE will move in the team's hearts and the hearts of those that we are fortunate to minister to. "showing kindness to the poor is equal to honoring your Maker." (proverbs 14:31b passion Bible)
