i ❤️ kenya

day 1. a delicious breakfast followed by the team sorting dozens and dozens of suitcases filled with supplies. organization central 😁. then piled into bus and went to really nice grocery store! for water and snacks.

next was the deaf school where 'in HIS hands' supports the 87 students. they have cornered the market on joy, indescribable joy! they have nothing. we outfitted each with dress & headband & purse for girls and shorts & shirts for the boys. the medical group evaluated several, mostly with upper respiratory conditions -- the buildings have mold combined with breathing in smoke from the cooking fires.

the conditions are so horrendous, and it is all they know. the needs are so great, it is hard to not be overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude.

and most just crave attention, just to be noticed and seen as an individual... to be hugged, held, touched. and so that is what we did. and played. and raced. and let them touch watches with gadgets 😆.

we came home to a wonderful dinner of fresh fish caught today (check out the ceiling of our dining hut!) and prayer and debriefing of the day. this is the first mission trip for several, and it is a lot to take in. seeing poverty in person that first time changes a person.

(the one that i knew needed my necklace 😁
